One in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime. Even though summer is over, in North Dakota we still need to protect ourselves from hazards such as outdoor sunlight and indoor tanning beds which are especially popular during our winter months. This video highlights new treatments in skin cancer and melanoma. Experts in this episode include Dr. Alyssa Hoverson, dermatologist at Altru’s Truyu Aesthetic Center; Dr. Robert Sticca, surgeon, and chair and program director of the Department of Surgery at the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences; and Dr. Ralph Levitt, oncologist and clinical researcher at Roger Maris Cancer Center. The Skin Cancer Foundation (www.skincancer.org) contributed to this video. UNDHealth.org aims to inform, educate and engage the people of North Dakota on health care issues. Covering common ailments like common sports injuries and more complex issues like skin cancer, UNDHealth.org will keep you up-to-date.
