Before going deep into the details of types of the mesothelioma cancer, we should first have an insight on asbestos, the main cause of mesothelioma. The mesothelioma cause is related to the intensity of asbestos exposure that can either be direct (primary) or indirect (secondary) exposure. Asbestos does not only cause mesothelioma cancer but it can harm the body in other ways too. for instance it may be the cause of Asbestos lung cancer, Asbestosis, Diffuse pleural thickening and Fibrosis other than malignant mesothelioma. The cause of mesothelioma being asbestos exposure was discovered in connection with the occupational exposure to the mineral. for that case the exposed persons were in connection with working at places where there was extensive use of asbestos. the people who first suffered this deadly disease were mostly asbestos miners, workers at factories and shipyards along with those related to construction. As the early cases of mesothelioma were reported after around 30 years or more after exposure to asbestos and the normal time taken by mesothelioma to become symptomatic is almost the same. therefore it was easy to establish the links to asbestos and mesothelioma patients with the same occupational background as well. it is also the only known cause of mesothelioma that has been proven so far. The naturally occurring asbestos is generally of six fibrous minerals namely chrysotile, tremolite, actinolite, amosite, crocidolite and anthophyllite. the asbestos has long been in use in a variety of purposes may it be commercial or industrial. As this mineral is resistant to heat and fire along with having a high tensile strength it was named ‘miracle mineral’ and used as an insulation material in buildings, automobile and the shipbuilding trades. The people that were in direct relation to these and Miners, who were harvesting this hazardous mineral on a daily basis, were most at risk of developing mesothelioma because of the heavy amount of asbestos exposure they faced daily. As the asbestos was doing more harm than benefit to the humans it was thus better to ban its use. These hazards were also known but ignored due to business purposes. but due to an increased public awareness and the related concerns to the health, it was banned finally in the most affected countries.
